City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department has forced the National Championship race for Cyclocross to postpone until today Monday January 12, 2015. The change seems to have hit a nerve with many in the cycling world and for good reason, a national level race should have the proper contingency plans and foresight to deal with any issues like this that might have come up, furthermore the City of Austin Parks Department should have never agreed to host the race if there was ANY chance of a cancellation or postponement. Many are suggesting no one could have predicted this serious of weather, obviously these people either don’t live in Texas or they live under a rock…… we have wild weather swings and intense rains ALL THE TIME!! Like so many other racers a postponement is devastating for young racers as travel cost, hotels, food and other commitments have forced many of the racers to head home without competing. Not a good experience and extremely frustrating for young racers who poor their hearts (and often their parents money) into a shot at a National Race….. a change like this can put a “bad taste” in a racers mouth for years to come. This situation is unfortunate but should have been foreseen by someone…….
