Ranch Rules

Roundup Rules and Regulations!

WARNING: The Continental Ranch is a rugged, remote, and inherently dangerous place to camp and climb. Climbing is a sport with inherent danger, which may result in serious injury or death. Read and understand this warning before participating in the Roundup event.

Ranch Rules

All individuals present must be registered for the Roundup AND signed in with OWA. We are like the NSA, we need to track your every move and what recipes you liked on Facebook.

No personal campfires. We will have a big fire in a central area if there is no burn ban. Bring your bongos.

Wag Bags must be used for going #2. Don’t dig holes; we will have wag bags to use. Think of it as practice for Expedition Climbing.

All waste must be taken out with you. You are responsible for hauling your own trash!

No Dogs Allowed. We know that this is a pain and that many people like to climb with their furry friends. But getting to the cliffs requires 3rd class down climbing and/or rappelling. The ranch is also a very dangerous place for dogs, with dog cactus (a type of cactus that is named for it’s threat to canines) and snakes and large predators around.

Climbing Rules

Climbing Rules

Climb only in developed areas when event staff are present. Please don’t wander off looking for sweet FAs. It will only get you into a cactus patch, not Climbing Magazine.

Night Climbing is allowed, but not ALL night. Staff will be at the climbing areas after dark but they need sleep too. There are also plenty of daylight hours for crushing. This isn’t Horseshoe Hell.

Climb with a Helmet. We know. You don’t want to look like a dork. But this is a rugged area with plenty of loose rock. Climbers and belayers should wear helmets while near the cliffs. We will have lots of helmets to borrow and plenty of space to hang out where you don’t have to wear one.

Share the Space! Please don’t take up a route for an extended period of time. Let others have a turn in between falls. If top roping, pull your rope for a leader after you’ve gotten a chance to climb.

Be Respectful of others! This is a family friendly event. Playing loud or offensive music or shouting profanity ruins the experience for others. There is no scientific evidence to support the claim that shouting the F word cures Elvis Leg.

Follow directions of event staff. We are there to help. If a staff member politely asks you to do something or kindly reminds you of one of our rules, please be courteous and follow their direction. We have feelings. And they are easily hurt.

Camping Rules

Camp only in designated areas. Don’t worry there’s lots of space.

Be Respectful of others! Please don’t keep others awake late into the night with loud music or conversation in the camping area. Many people need their beauty sleep in order to crush.
